Sustainability

SUSTAINABILITY OBJECTIVE

Sustainability is one of the pillars on which the FLOUTFIT philosophy is based. We know so well that the fashion industry can have a very important influence on the environment and society and we want to be part of the entire solution, which is why we have embraced this objective with unstoppable enthusiasm, by pledging to do our part to protect our own planet. We believe that each of us must help ideate a more sustainable world, and FLOUTFIT is our answer.

We are committed to minimizing the environmental impact of our products and production processes. Every piece of clothing we create is made upon customer request, by erasing mass production waste. We use high-quality and sustainable materials, and we continuously invest in researching new methods and innovative technologies in order to reduce resource consumption.

How are we pursuing this mission?

  • Sustainable materials and manufacturing process: we have carefully selected sustainable materials and our manufacturing process is environmentally friendly to minimize our impact on the Earth.
  • Production on request: each of our clothes is made upon customer request. This allows us to erase waste and reduce pollution. We do not have warehouses overflowing with products, nor waste of materials.
  • Ecological packaging: we use recyclable materials by reducing waste to a minimum.
  • Education and consciousness: we want to educate our customers about sustainable fashion. We offer information and details regarding viable choices and benefits of a sustainable wardrobe.
  • Transmit positivity: in addition to sustainability, we desire to spread positivity and quietness in the world. Our products are not just clothing, but vehicles of a positive message that everyone can wear pridefully.
  • Constant innovation: we are committed to remaining at the cutting-edge of the fashion world, continuing to look for new solutions and technologies that further reduce our environmental impact.
  • We plant a tree for each order: we contribute a % of each sale towards tree planting because reforestation efforts revive natural habitats, improve coral reef health, support local livelihoods and aid in the fight against climate change by extracting CO2 from the air.

MADE-TO-ORDER PRODUCTION

Every purchase of clothing, be it large or small, leaves a footprint. You have the power to decide the size of the imprint you leave on the planet, but we want to assist you in making that choice wisely. One in five garments ends up in a landfill without being worn even once. By choosing made-to-order production, you opt for a type of clothing that is created only when an order is placed, resulting in less fabric waste compared to conventional production.

FLOUTFIT embraces the sustainable fashion movement, using scientific methods and data to ensure that the manufacturing, selling, and use of each garment happen in the most sustainable way possible. To achieve this, we are committed to improving the fashion industry at every level of the supply chain, from sourcing raw materials to production, and finally, to the sale of products.

Moreover, sustainable fashion addresses not only environmentally beneficial changes but also social issues affecting industry workers, such as low wages and poor working conditions.

The main problem to tackle is pollution caused by the production and sale of clothing. To understand its scope, let's take a look at the lifecycle of one of the most timeless garments: the white cotton t-shirt.

Cotton clothing is comfortable, durable, and breathable. Cotton cultivation is relatively inexpensive, making it the most widely grown non-food crop globally. Unfortunately, it has drawbacks: cotton farmers use pesticides, insecticides, and fertilizers that mix with water and drain into the soil, affecting soil biodiversity and rendering water undrinkable.

To grow the cotton needed for a t-shirt, approximately 2,700 liters of water are required (equivalent to what an adult human drinks in 3.5 years). In comparison, producing enough polyester for a t-shirt requires only 4 liters of water.

Once the cotton is harvested, it is sent to a specialized factory and transformed into raw gray fabric. The fabric is then bleached, dyed, and treated with chemicals to achieve the desired appearance: a soft roll of white fabric sent to a textile plant and transformed into t-shirts. Unfortunately, due to the chemicals and water involved, all these production stages can lead to significant environmental damage.

Finally, the t-shirts reach your favorite store: you decide to shop, buy one, and wear it. But what happens to the rest of the shirts you saw on the shelves? Those that are not sold often end up in landfills or are burned, contributing to higher emissions and pollution.

Quite depressing, isn't it? But not all is lost! Now that the fashion industry and its customers are aware of these issues, the desire to find solutions to transform the sector is at an all-time high.

The most significant advantage of made-to-order production, compared to the conventional production of large clothing retailers, is that it generates less waste. Traditional retail chains produce items in mass quantities for the general public, leading to overproduction. In contrast, we print a product only when a customer places an order, creating items that already have a known buyer.

This allows us to avoid overproduction by retail giants, meaning we don't end up with excess products that go unsold and end up in landfills or burned without ever being worn. With 92 million tons of textiles going to waste every year, a business model like ours marks a crucial turning point for sustainable fashion.

QUALITY AND RELIABILITY

We collaborate only with suppliers specializing in high-quality items, resulting in products that maintain color vibrancy and fabric softness even after numerous washes. Before introducing new items to our catalog, we subject each piece to rigorous quality and durability tests, ensuring it meets all quality standards and withstands the test of time. The duration of a product is directly proportional to its quality.

We collaborate with Kornit for direct-to-garment (DTG) printing, which is an eco-friendly choice compared to older apparel printing methods like screen printing. We use only vegan water-based inks, which are not only safe and toxin-free but also biodegradable and entirely free of animal products.
